Why Doesn’t the Moon have an atmosphere?

The moon has an atmosphere, it is just very very thin. the amount of atmosphere a planet or moon has depends on its gravity. Because the moon has a gravity 1/6th of Earths, it is unable to hold onto the atoms and molecules that would make up its atmosphere.
