View of Venus and a Waning Crescent Moon

View of Venus and a Waning Crescent Moon

Last night was very poor viewing (Not looking at you Trap), very cloudy , so this morning when I opened the door and seen a beautiful waning crescent moon and Venus above it, I decided to try out a a few more settings on the camera to see the best possible picture I could get.

Unfortunately the best one is below.

For this kind of photography, I think you really need some lunar filters, as the light coming from the moon is just to bright and makes it blurry. I have read a lot that if you want to take photos of the moon and planets its best to do this with a  webcam through a telescope, then do some tricks on computer to compose your final image. Hopefully I will get a chance to do this soon.

You can see some Earthshine on the dark side, this is light reflected from earth onto the Moon. Straight above the moon is a very bright dot, this is the planet Venus, I had forgotten all about being told that in the mornings is the best time to see Venus, and sure enough there it is.

It was to cloudy to see any other stars, just after checking again there and the clouds have covered the moon and venus completely now. So it was nice to get this image.
