First Steps into Astronomy

Recently I have decided to rekindle my interest in astronomy.
When I was young I had a very cheap telescope, I remember spending hours looking at the moon and stars with it, and a major highlight for me was when I thought I had spotted a Planet. Even though it was only a very small dot something told me that it was Jupiter,  I remember running downstairs to get my Dad and the two of us looking at it, I think he was as excited as I was. This was in the time before the internet, so it took us a few days to confirm that it was indeed Jupiter that we were looking at. After this I told myself that one day I would get a bigger and better telescope and move to the countryside to experience the best views possible of the night sky.
The story sounds better when I tell it in person 🙂
Fast forward 20 years or so, I have moved to the countryside, and on a clear night the sky can look fantastic.
Purchasing a telescope is now my next move…
Over the next few posts I will cover my journey through a re-introduction to astronomy. I am treating myself as a complete novice and intend to record what I learn here.
